Description

Rouge has no canon parents that I've ever heard of, and in the course of writing "The Grind", I've done quite a bit of thinking about what they would have to be like for her to have grown up the way she is. And then it hit me - the Fockers!

Sounds silly, I know, but the characters of Greg/Gaylord's parents in "Meet the Fockers" were so out there and open and unashamed of what they were, and that attitude resounds in Rouge, so I started working on characters around that sort of loose model.

The pair are former 'hippie' types, who had never actually planned to have children, but were so enthused by the idea of new life, a new soul coming into the world, that they took to it with an abundance of enthusiasm. Having always been very physically affectionate with each other, they smothered Rouge with hugs and kisses from the day she was born, instilling her with a very sturdy sense of self-identity and confidence that carries on pretty obviously into her adult life.

With both of them having careers in the field of physical intimacy (Adora, a therapist like Roz, except with no age-specification; and David a historian, inspired by a one-shot character on Boston Legal who collected Victorian 'romance memorabilia), Rouge grew to be very confident and knowledgeable in that sense as well. Which is where she gets her overt, sometimes intimidating, flirtatious nature.

Okay! Thank you for permitting me to ramble - hope it provided a bit of insight!

Enjoy!
